“When families have to choose between food and school supplies, your support enables me to reduce some of their worry. You allow me to provide tools to further success, encourage expression, and create an equal education for all my students.”
From a teacher in Houston, TX
When families can barely afford rent and groceries, school supplies just can’t be a priority. For these students struggling with extreme poverty, we can offer school supplies. We serve kids at schools where at least 70% of students are enrolled in the federal free or reduced lunch program. We do this through our National Network of Resource Centers and our School Ready Supplies program. We also help students affected by natural disasters return to normal routines with our Second Responder ® program.
On average, teachers spend an average of $578 per year from their own pockets on school supplies for their classrooms. That’s why we offer 40 Resource Centers across the country where teachers can go to obtain free school supplies. We also offer a Teacher Grants program for educators to fund innovative projects in the classroom.
*The Kids In Need Foundation provides free school supplies to students and teachers through our Resource Centers affiliates across the country. Supplies donated to us get directed to our Resource Centers. Backpack giveaways are hosted by corporate, organizational, and individual sponsorships. We apologize, but we cannot donate supplies directly to other organizations, schools, families, or individuals.
When families struggle financially, school supplies just can't be a priority. In 2016, we directly supported 5.4 million kids with new supplies.
