MINNEAPOLIS – March 5, 2018– The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), a non-profit dedicated to providing free school supplies nationally to students and teachers who need them, is celebrating the milestone of donating one billion dollars in donated school supplies since the foundation’s inception in 1995. The Kids In Need Foundation ensures every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students and teachers most in need. The Foundation has distributed more than one billion dollars in supplies to children who would otherwise go without, providing tools for success in school and in life.

“When a child has the tools they need to learn, we are giving them the confidence to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom,’” said Dave Smith, executive director of The Kids In Need Foundation. “We have donated one billion dollars worth of free school supplies to students and teachers in this country, and our recipients tell us these supplies positively impact classroom participation, attendance, preparedness, student behavior, and homework completion. In 2017 alone, we supported 6.2 million kids with new supplies, and we plan to support millions of additional students in the years to come.”

The Foundation distributes supplies through four programs. These include a national network of 41 resource centers where teachers shop for free supplies, a Second Responder® program that provides school supplies to students impacted by natural disasters, a School Ready Supplies program that provides filled backpacks and bulk supplies to students, and a Teacher Supply Box program that provides successful applicants with boxes of essential supplies.
