MINNEAPOLIS – May 8, 2018
– The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), a non-profit dedicated to providing free school supplies nationally to students and teachers who need them, is donating school supplies to 15,000 students in Puerto Rico. The supplies will aid in recovery efforts from Hurricane Maria. The supply kits, including pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue sticks, will be distributed to elementary schools throughout Puerto Rico in the month of April.

“The students in Puerto Rico are still recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria,’” said Dave Smith, executive director of The Kids In Need Foundation. “We are happy to provide them with these basic school supplies, so they have the tools they need to learn at school. We hope these supplies will bring a sense or normalcy back into their lives, and remind them that we care about their well being and success both inside and outside of the classroom.”

The Kids In Need Foundation distributes supplies through four programs. These include a national network of 41 resource centers where teachers shop for free supplies, a Second Responder® program sponsored by Dollar General Literacy Foundation that provides school supplies to students impacted by natural disasters, a School Ready Supplies program that provides filled backpacks and bulk supplies to students, and a Teacher Supply Box program that provides successful applicants with boxes of essential supplies.

In 2017 alone, Kids In Need Foundation supported 6.2 million kids and more than 180,000 teachers across the country.
