The Kids In Need Foundation Releases Annual School Supply Impact Report
The 2017 report is based on survey results from more than 12,000 educators who have received Kids In Need Foundation school supplies.
MINNEAPOLIS – May 18, 2018 – The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), a non-profit dedicated to providing free school supplies nationally to students and teachers who need them, today announces the release of their annual impact report. This report details the 2017 survey results of more than 12,000 educators who have received Kids In Need Foundation school supplies. The report, sponsored by longtime partner Thirty-One gifts, articulates the impact of free school supplies on the educator’s classrooms, on their ability to teach their students, on their personal budgets, and on their capacity to further the success of their students.
2017 KINF Impact Report
Of our more than 12,000 teachers surveyed:
- 94% say receiving our school supplies is critical or very important to their daily classroom activities.
- 79% say school supplies create a more equitable learning environment.
- 71% increase the variety and scope of projects offered to students because they have access to our school supplies.
- 76% say the self-esteem of their students increases because they have access to our school supplies.
- 83% says classroom participation increases because they have access to our school supplies.
- $500 is the average amount spent per teacher annually on school supplies.
“When students have the school supplies they need to complete their assignments, they are more engaged in the classroom, and both their confidence and attendance improves,’” said Dave Smith, executive director of The Kids In Need Foundation. “This annual impact report echoes the words we hear each day from the teachers and students we serve. School supplies create equitable classrooms, and classroom participation improves when students have the tools they need to learn.”
The Kids In Need Foundation recently reached the milestone of donating $1 Billion in free school supplies to students and teachers nationwide. The Foundation distributes supplies through four programs. These include a national network of 40 resource centers where teachers shop for free supplies, a Second Responder® program that provides school supplies to students impacted by natural disasters, a School Ready Supplies program that provides filled backpacks and bulk supplies to students, and a Teacher Supply Box program that provides successful applicants with boxes of essential supplies.
In 2017 alone, Kids In Need Foundation supported 6.2 million students and more than 200,000 teachers across the country.
