Second Responder Lockup RGB

School supplies provide a path back to normal.

Our Second Responder® program provides supplies to teachers and students affected by natural disasters. KINF works with local authorities, schools, and sponsors to help students return to their routines with the tools they need to continue their education. These include hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Michael, and Florence and the tornadoes that struck Dallas and Nashville in 2020.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation

Thanks to our national sponsor, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, we have been able to provide thousands of supplies to students and teachers impacted by natural disasters.

When the first responders’ work is done, we’re there.

The Second Responder® program operates during the recovery period following the devastation, once the critical necessities of food, shelter, and medical aid are in place. We deliver hope in a tangible way for teachers and students to return to the important work of learning as they start the path to rebuilding.

Beyond Words, a program of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, is a disaster relief fund for public school libraries in Dollar General communities. Grants are awarded to help rebuild school libraries that have incurred substantial damage or hardship due to a natural disaster, fire, or an act recognized by the federal government as terrorism. Funding can help replace books, media, and/or library equipment that support learning in a school library.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • A public school with a pre-existing school library
  • Within 36 months from the date of the disaster 15 miles from a Dollar General store,
  • Corporate Office, or Distribution Center
  • Significant damage to books, media, and/or library equipment
