MINNEAPOLIS – November 15, 2019 – The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), a national nonprofit dedicated to providing free school supplies to students most in need, announces today that KINF’s Second Responder® program will donate student and teacher school supplies to a Dallas elementary school impacted by tornadoes which tore through North Texas in late October. The donation event, benefitting 410 students and 40 teachers, will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Walnut Hill Elementary (2151 Royal Ln Dallas, TX 75229).
The event, in partnership with NFL Dallas Cowboys safety Kavon Frazier and his foundation, Frazier Cares, will feature a giveaway presentation from Kavon Frazier. Students will receive backpacks filled with much-needed school supplies, such as notebooks, paper, pens, and more. Teachers will receive tote bags filled with classroom supplies. Frazier will visit with students to provide some cheer and inspiration after the devastation of last month’s tornadoes.
“For a community to be hit by ten tornadoes with such widespread damage, it’s traumatizing for students and families. School needs to be the place where students can feel secure and return to normalcy,” said Corey Gordon, CEO of The Kids In Need Foundation. “Our Second Responder program was designed to bring school supplies to help schools like Walnut Hill Elementary begin to recover. We are so grateful for the partnerships that allow us to bring these supplies to help students feel comforted and able to achieve in the classroom.”
“Our goal is to give these children not only the physical tools they need to continue their learning, but to also give them some encouragement and let them know that setbacks like this won’t prevent them from succeeding,” Frazier said.
The 2019 National Sponsor of the KINF Second Responder® program is the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The program operates during the recovery period following the devastation and works with local authorities, schools, and select sponsors to help kids return to normal routines. It has provided relief efforts to many communities, including after Hurricanes Katrina, Harvey, Irma, and Maria, and is the only national program of its kind.
“We lost our building, but we didn’t lose our school!” said Phillip Potter, director at Walnut Hill Elementary. “So much love has been shown to our students, parents, and community that we are inspired and ready to excel. Our students and teachers have been through a lot, and to have the support of partners like the Kids In Need Foundation and the Frazier Cares Foundation means a lot.”
The Kids In Need Foundation will be making an additional donation of supplies which will be distributed to assist a further 3,000 students of all ages within the Dallas Independent School District.
