Mission & Vision

At Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), we believe every student should have equal access to the opportunities and resources necessary for a quality education. Our mission is to create equitable learning spaces by providing essential supplies and support to under-resourced students and teachers across the country. As the only national nonprofit dedicated to serving schools where 70% or more of students are eligible for free or reduced-cost meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), we are committed to ensuring every student has the supplies they need to learn with confidence and reach their full potential.

We meet teachers where they’re at —with the supplies and support to level the playing field.

Through our national programs and network of partners, KINF delivers free school supplies to under-resourced schools—directly into the hands of students and teachers.

Whether it’s a backpack full of essentials, a supply-filled classroom, or crisis response kits after a disaster, we provide support that empowers learning from day one.

Our approach is practical, equitable, and scalable—focused on dignity, access, and long-term impact.

Our Values

At the heart of everything we do lies a deep belief in the transformative power of education. We envision a world where every child has access to a quality education—an essential foundation that opens doors, expands horizons, and empowers young people to realize their full potential. We are equally committed to upholding the dignity of every child. That means fostering learning environments where all students feel seen, respected, and valued—not just for their achievements, but for who they are. A meaningful education experience must reflect the worth of every learner and nurture their personal growth. None of this is possible without teachers. They are the backbone of our educational system—the mentors, guides, and role models shaping future generations. When educators are supported, respected, and equipped to thrive, their impact multiplies, helping students discover new possibilities and building a stronger, more equitable future for all. These values—Education, Dignity, and Teachers—are more than principles. They are our promise.

Education

A quality education is the best gateway to opportunity and provides greater possibilities for students to achieve their full potential.

Dignity

It is crucial to champion the inherent dignity of kids and the quality experiences they can have throughout education.

Teachers

When teachers are well-supported and appreciated, they have the ability to unlock the future potential of our nation, which is our children.

When we prioritize education, dignity, and support for teachers, we take meaningful steps toward closing the Opportunity Gap. These values create environments where all students—regardless of background or circumstances—are seen, supported, and empowered to define success on their own terms.

The Opportunity Gap

The experiences of the teachers and students we serve underscore the challenging realities of the Opportunity Gap– an unequal distribution of resources often influenced by socio-economic status, location, familial situations and race, all factors and circumstances none of us can control when/where we are born. Unfortunately, these uncontrollable factors often prove to be obstacles in the way of students being able to achieve or realize their full potential. Yet, amidst these challenges, one caring adult can truly make a difference. A single teacher, mentor, or supporter can change the entire trajectory of a child’s life. By ensuring that every student has the essential tools, opportunities, and support they need, we can begin to address the Opportunity Gap, regardless of their background and circumstances.

  • Socioeconomic Gaps

Essential school supplies should be available for all students, regardless of where they’re coming from.

  • Equal Access

Every child in America should have equal opportunity and access to a quality education.

  • Underfunded Teachers

In schools with chronic underfunding, educators are limited in their ability to meet the material needs of their students, contributing to disparities in achievement and opportunities.
