Newell Brands and Sharpie® to provide over 3 million markers to under-resourced teachers through Kids In Need Foundation

Minneapolis, Minn. (Oct. 5, 2020) – While America’s teachers work to navigate the educational challenges presented by COVID-19, the need for school supplies is more significant than ever. Thanks to the generosity of Sharpie® and its parent company, Newell Brands, over 3 million new markers will be provided to under-resourced classrooms through Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), bringing creativity and self-expression to the classroom at a time when it’s needed most.

“We are grateful that Newell Brands and Sharpie® have long-supported under-resourced schools across the country,” said Corey Gordon, CEO of Kids In Need Foundation. “Newell’s donation demonstrates its commitment to supporting under-resourced teachers. Our network of teachers spends between one and two paychecks each year on supplies for their classroom. This gesture by Newell and Sharpie® provides tools for teachers that inspire creativity and imagination in their classrooms.”

“We are pleased to partner with KINF on the #SharpieForSuccess campaign and honored to support under-resourced schools at a time when communities across the country are faced with unique challenges,” said Laurel Hurd, President of the Learning & Development Segment at Newell Brands. “We are grateful for the opportunity to provide students with Sharpie® Markers to inspire their imaginations and promote self-expression during these extraordinary times, and we hope the #SharpieForSuccess campaign brightens students’ learning experiences while highlighting the importance of supporting teachers and classrooms across America.”
